General Information

Rome is the capital city and most populated comune (municipality) of Italy. It is also the administrative centre of the Lazio region and of the Metropolitan City of Rome. A special comune named Roma Capitale with a population of 2.7 million in an area of 1,287.36 km2 (497.1 mi2), Rome is the third most populous city in the European Union by population within city limits. The Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, with a population of 4.2 million, is the most populous metropolitan city in Italy. Its metropolitan area is the third-most populous within Italy. Rome is located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, within Lazio (Latium), along the shores of the Tiber Valley. Vatican City is an independent country inside the city boundaries of Rome, the only existing example of a country within a city. Rome is often referred to as the "City of Seven Hills" due to its geography, and also as the "Eternal City". Rome is generally considered to be one of the cradles of Western civilization and Western Christian culture, and the centre of the Catholic Church.

Morta di peste polmonare in Siberia una tecnica di laboratorio: 200 persone in quarantena. “Attivate misure anti-epidemiche”
Una donna è morta in Siberia probabilmente di peste polmonare, facendo scattare “una serie completa di misure anti-epidemiche”. Circa 200 persone entrate in contatto con lei sono state messe in quarantena in un centro precedentemente utilizzato per i malati di Covid. L’organo di stampa regionale indipendente russo People of Baikal ha identificato la donna: si tratterebbe di Daria Shipilova, una tecnica di laboratorio di 28 anni che lavorava nell’Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute, creato nel 1934 come “organo operativo scientifico per il controllo della peste”. Il 25 settembre ha rotto accidentalmente una provetta con l’agente patogeno della peste polmonare. Poco dopo, si è sentita male ed è stata ricoverata in ospedale nella città di Shelekhov, alla periferia del capoluogo di Irkutsk. È morta nella notte del 2 ottobre. Il sindaco di Shelekhov, Maxim Modin, ha dichiarato che l’ospedale è stato messo in quarantena, gli esami di laboratorio sono stati sospesi e non vengono dimessi né ricoverati nuovi pazienti. Secondo Newsweek, il governatore della regione russa di Irkutsk, Igor Kobzev, ha dichiarato venerdì di essersi confrontato con il capo di Rospotrebnadzor, l’agenzia russa per la salute pubblica, in merito a “un caso sospetto di un residente della regione affetto da un’infezione particolarmente pericolosa”. E ha aggiunto che le autorità russe stanno “attuando una gamma completa di misure anti epidemiche”. Alexey Tsydenov, governatore della vicina regione della Buriazia, ha confermato che una donna è morta “probabilmente di peste”. Dal 1° ottobre, secondo fonti di People of Baikal, agenti dell’FSB hanno iniziato a scortare ambulanze che trasportavano per accertamenti le persone che avevano avuto contatti con Shipilova. La peste polmonare, secondo il portale Epicentro dell’Istituto superiore di sanità (Iss), può trasmettersi da persona a persona attraverso l’aria o gli aerosol di persone infette e quindi costituisce una delle forme più pericolose per il potenziale epidemico che la caratterizza. Tra il 2019 e il 2025, la Mongolia, che confina con la Buriazia, ha confermato 17 casi di peste che hanno causato 7 decessi. Cinque persone sono morte di peste bubbonica, mentre due dei deceduti avevano contratto la peste setticemica. Tra il 2019 e il 2025, nel mondo 10 Paesi hanno segnalato casi sospetti o confermati di peste, per un totale di quasi 4mila casi, riporta l’Organizzazione mondiale della sanità. La peste può essere trasmessa da pulci infette dal batterio Yersinia pestis, o passare all’uomo tramite il contatto con materiale, animali o particelle infette. La peste bubbonica è la forma più comune, ma il batterio causa anche la peste polmonare e la peste setticemica. La Yersinia pestis è naturalmente presente in alcune parti del mondo, il che significa che i casi sono rari ma possono verificarsi con regolarità. La peste è stata responsabile di milioni di morti nel corso dei millenni. La Peste Nera devastò l’Europa e uccise circa un terzo della popolazione del continente nel XIV secolo. Gli esperti affermano che oggi la malattia è curabile con antibiotici, se diagnosticata precocemente. E’ una patologia dalle origini antiche e secondo uno studio scientifico pubblicato a giugno, le popolazioni di cacciatori-raccoglitori che vivevano intorno al lago Baikal, nella Siberia sud-orientale, furono colpite da epidemie di peste mortali circa 5.500 anni fa. La peste polmonare viene descritta anche dall’Oms come “la forma più virulenta di peste”, che colpisce i polmoni e può avere un periodo di incubazione di sole 24 ore, provoca sintomi come tosse e difficoltà respiratorie. La peste bubbonica, la forma più comune, provoca brividi, vomito, dolori muscolari e febbre e spesso chi ne è affetto soffre anche di infiammazione dei linfonodi, che possono poi diventare purulenti. Negli stadi avanzati della peste bubbonica, l’infezione può diffondersi ai polmoni e trasformarsi in peste polmonare. Se la peste bubbonica raggiunge il flusso sanguigno, può evolvere in peste setticemica. Un maxiaffare petrolifero multimiliardario entra nelle trattative tra Usa e Russia per porre fine al conflitto in Ucraina. Lo scrive il New York Times, che spiega come i colloqui dell’amministrazione di Donald Trump con il Cremlino riguardino anche un’operazione su giacimenti e raffinerie della Lukoil. Un’intesa che avvantaggerebbe anche aziende mediorientali legate ai due principali negoziatori americani, Steve Witkoff e il genero del presidente Jared Kushner. L’accordo, subordinato all’approvazione del governo americano e del Cremlino, riguarda un vasto complesso di giacimenti petroliferi, raffinerie e stazioni di servizio in tutto il mondo di proprietà di Lukoil, una delle maggiori compagnie energetiche russe. A guidare il gruppo di potenziali acquirenti è l’investitore americano Todd Boehly, sostenitore di Donald Trump che ha donato 2 milioni di dollari a iniziative politiche legate al presidente. Nel consorzio figurano anche investitori mediorientali con rapporti d’affari con Kushner e Witkoff, i due emissari di Trump impegnati nei negoziati con il Cremlino, oltre a un’agenzia del governo Usa. Il quotidiano specifica che non vi è alcuna indicazione che il marito di Ivanka Trump e l’inviato del tycoon ne possano trarre un profitto personale. “Tuttavia – sottolineano i giornalisti del New York Times che firmano l’articolo Anton Troianovski e Eric Lipton– l’accordo in fase di definizione rappresenta una sorprendente commistione tra interessi commerciali privati ​​e geopolitica, anche per un’amministrazione che ha regolarmente liquidato le preoccupazioni relative a potenziali conflitti di interesse”. Le fonti ascoltate dai cronisti hanno detto che il presidente Putin ha citato l’accordo durante l’incontro con Witkoff e Kushner al Cremlino, avvenuto il 5 settembre. E sarebbe stato proprio il capo del Cremlino a mettere sul tavolo la possibilità dell’affare. “Gli americani hanno risposto che se ne sarebbero occupati, vedendo nell’iniziativa un modo per favorire un clima di buona volontà con il Cremlino e, al contempo, ridurre i prezzi globali dell’energia. A Mosca – scrivono ancora – la decisione sull’operazione è considerata di competenza di Putin, sebbene la Lukoil sia tecnicamente un’azienda privata. L’esito di questa colossale transazione — che coinvolge asset eterogenei quali giacimenti petroliferi in Camerun, raffinerie in Europa e stazioni di servizio nel New Jersey — dipende dunque da Putin e da Trump”. Il valore dichiarato delle attività internazionali di Lukoil si aggira attorno ai 20 miliardi di dollari, ma il prezzo dell’operazione non è chiaro. Alcune settimane fa, sempre il New York Times aveva riferito di un cambio di strategia alla Casa Bianca, con Trump intenzionato a ristabilire relazioni economiche su diversi settori chiave come quello dell’energia, anche prima della fine del conflitto con Kiev.
