General Information

Rome is the capital city and most populated comune (municipality) of Italy. It is also the administrative centre of the Lazio region and of the Metropolitan City of Rome. A special comune named Roma Capitale with a population of 2.7 million in an area of 1,287.36 km2 (497.1 mi2), Rome is the third most populous city in the European Union by population within city limits. The Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, with a population of 4.2 million, is the most populous metropolitan city in Italy. Its metropolitan area is the third-most populous within Italy. Rome is located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, within Lazio (Latium), along the shores of the Tiber Valley. Vatican City is an independent country inside the city boundaries of Rome, the only existing example of a country within a city. Rome is often referred to as the "City of Seven Hills" due to its geography, and also as the "Eternal City". Rome is generally considered to be one of the cradles of Western civilization and Western Christian culture, and the centre of the Catholic Church.

“Oltre le guerre. Il futuro nelle nostre mani”. Quattro giorni di dibattiti e lezioni su conflitti, pace e soluzioni diplomatiche
“Oltre le guerre. Il futuro nelle nostre mani” è il titolo della settima edizione dell’evento “Il Coraggio della Pace” promosso dall’associazione Disarma con il supporto di Cgil Toscana e Flai Cgil. Da giovedì 1 ottobre a domenica 4, a Sesto Fiorentino, saranno presenti figure di primo piano del mondo intellettuale e accademico, ma anche ottanta relatrici e relatori provenienti dal mondo sindacale e pacifista, insieme a giornalisti, politici e commentatori. L’intero evento è trasmesso in diretta streaming sul nostro sito ed è sostenuto anche dalla Scuola del Fatto: “La Scuola di Cittadinanza del Fatto Quotidiano partecipa attivamente al convegno perché il tema della pace e dei Peace Studies caratterizza numerosi corsi del nuovo anno accademico”, ha affermato Miriam Mirolla, direttrice della Scuola di cittadinanza “Domenico De Masi” del Fatto Quotidiano. La prima giornata sarà interamente dedicata alla Palestina, con diversi interventi sulla necessità di costruire un fronte comune contro il genocidio, sul futuro delle Nazioni Unite e sul volto finanziario del genocidio, con proposte concrete per la pace. Francesca Albanese, Monsignor Giovanni Ricchiuti, Elena Basile – e molti altri – interverranno sulla situazione nella Striscia di Gaza e nei quattro giorni di dibattito gli ospiti si concentreranno su 17 focus tematici che ruotano intorno alla guerra, da diverse angolazioni. L’economista statunitense Jeffrey Sachs salirà sul palco sabato pomeriggio insieme al leader del Movimento 5 stelle Giuseppe Conte per capire se “è possibile una nuova primavera?”. A seguire, gli avvocati Nicola Quatrano e Domenico Ciruzzi presenteranno la costituzione del Soccorso Legale Disarma, un presidio fondamentale per tutelare e non lasciare sole le persone querelate, denunciate o colpite per le proprie idee contro la guerra. Quando si parla di pace e disarmo, il dialogo con la politica è necessario e per questo, oltre al leader dei cinque stelle, ci saranno anche Nicola Fratoianni di Avs e Goffredo Bettini in rappresentanza del Pd. “Il nostro è un monito che lanciamo a partire dall’urgenza assoluta di fermare la guerra in Ucraina e il genocidio del popolo palestinese – dichiara Claudio Grassi, coordinatore nazionale di Disarma. “Intendiamo incidere sulle scelte pubbliche mettendo al centro il tema dei temi: la pace, che significa disarmo, cambiamento della politica estera, nuovo multilateralismo”. Il programma si preannuncia fitto di appuntamenti cruciali con riflessioni anche sul ruolo dell’intelligenza artificiale nei conflitti, sulla dipendenza energetica dai combustibili fossili e sulla necessità di redistribuire le ricchezze e disarmare, oltre che gli eserciti, anche il capitale. Tutti gli approfondimenti su temi, tempi e modalità di iscrizione, sono presenti sul sito della Scuola del Fatto. Al centro del dibattito c’è anche la guerra in Ucraina, che da più di quattro anni sta facendo emergere le fragilità dell’Europa e la necessità di sostenere la resistenza in modo diverso. Per Francesco Sylos Labini, fisico, ricercatore e docente della Scuola del Fatto Quotidiano, bisogna comprendere quale sviluppo si intenda finanziare. “Le sanzioni hanno imposto costi alla Russia, ma non hanno prodotto il rapido collasso della sua economia”, ha affermato il docente. “Destinare ingenti risorse alla difesa significa inoltre scegliere quali altre priorità — dalla transizione energetica alla ricerca e alle politiche sociali — rischiano di essere sacrificate o rinviate”. Per Labini, per costruire la pace c’è bisogno di politiche che siano in grado di perseguirla attraverso iniziative diplomatiche, proposte negoziali e garanzie di sicurezza da discutere con le parti coinvolte. Gli Oasis bloccano tutto. Le oltre 100 ore di registrazioni inedite della band non andranno, almeno per ora, all’asta. L’archivio conosciuto come “The Desk Tapes”, che avrebbe dovuto essere messo in vendita il sabato 3 ottobre da Littleton Auctions a Evesham, nel Worcestershire, è stato ritirato dopo l’intervento legale dei fratelli Gallagher. La collezione, il cui valore era stato stimato tra circa 1,4 e 1,9 milioni di euro, comprendeva registrazioni di 63 concerti, soundcheck e oltre cento ore di materiale audio realizzato negli anni Novanta, durante la fase di ascesa degli Oasis. Si tratta di registrazioni effettuate direttamente dal banco del suono, considerate dalla casa d’aste un archivio particolarmente raro della storia live del gruppo. A raccogliere e conservare il materiale era stato Huw Richards, tecnico del suono front-of-house degli Oasis dal periodo dell’uscita di “Definitely, Maybe”, nel 1994, fino al 2001. Per circa vent’anni le cassette sono rimaste nella disponibilità della famiglia Richards, fino alla decisione del figlio Owain di portarle sul mercato. La vendita, tuttavia, non aveva ricevuto il sostegno degli Oasis. Ora la controversia è arrivata sul piano giudiziario. Owain Richards ha confermato che la band ha intrapreso un’azione legale nei confronti suoi e del padre per impedire la vendita delle registrazioni. “È vero che gli Oasis hanno fatto causa a me e a mio padre per cercare di impedire l’asta dei nastri realizzati da mio padre molti anni fa”, ha dichiarato Richards. La famiglia ha quindi accettato di rinviare la vendita “per consentire che la controversia legale venga risolta attraverso un procedimento giudiziario o in altro modo, in maniera ordinata”.
