General Information

Rome is the capital city and most populated comune (municipality) of Italy. It is also the administrative centre of the Lazio region and of the Metropolitan City of Rome. A special comune named Roma Capitale with a population of 2.7 million in an area of 1,287.36 km2 (497.1 mi2), Rome is the third most populous city in the European Union by population within city limits. The Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, with a population of 4.2 million, is the most populous metropolitan city in Italy. Its metropolitan area is the third-most populous within Italy. Rome is located in the central-western portion of the Italian Peninsula, within Lazio (Latium), along the shores of the Tiber Valley. Vatican City is an independent country inside the city boundaries of Rome, the only existing example of a country within a city. Rome is often referred to as the "City of Seven Hills" due to its geography, and also as the "Eternal City". Rome is generally considered to be one of the cradles of Western civilization and Western Christian culture, and the centre of the Catholic Church.

“Tregua sulla linea del fronte, una fascia smilitarizzata garantita da forze neutrali sotto la bandiera dell’Onu, sì all’Ucraina nell’Unione europea” ma “non nella Nato”. È la proposta di Goffredo Bettini per una linea comune del centrosinistra sulla guerra in Ucraina, superando il dibattito sulle armi a Kiev che paralizza la coalizione. In una lettera al Corriere della sera, l’ex parlamentare riferimento della sinistra dem chiede di “uscire dal dilemma pressante, armi sì o armi no, ponendolo in modo condizionato. Armi per cosa? Per quale prospettiva? Per quale assetto generale di sicurezza dell’Europa, della Russia, dell’Ucraina?”. Secondo Bettini, “se si avvia un percorso vero, pattizio e di tregua, nel corso di esso è del tutto legittimo e opportuno sostenere la parte dell’Ucraina ancora libera, con armi difensive che impediscano, nel corso della trattativa, ulteriori danni al popolo ucraino”. La proposta innesca vari commenti, a partire da quello di Giuseppe Conte, frontman del no alle armi. “Bettini ha sempre il merito di impostare ragionamenti di ampio respiro che non banalizzano mai la realtà complessa che viviamo. Oggi invoca un ruolo diverso per l’Europa che non sia quello di una pattuglia di volenterosi che porta avanti una guerra per procura. Serve una svolta”, dice il leader M5s. Su questo ”io sento il mandato di una parte larga dei cittadini che chiede un cambio di passo. Aiutare l’Ucraina ma non con le stesse modalità avute fin qui, con l’invio di armi, se vogliamo essere interpreti di una svolta negoziale”. “Lo sforzo che fa oggi Bettini credo sia un tentativo di entrare nel merito”, afferma anche l’ex ministro dem Andrea Orlando, ora consigliere regionale in Liguria, ospite di Omnibus su La7. “Continuare a dire che bisogna inviare armi ma ci vuole anche la diplomazia è giusto, ma poi bisogna anche declinare ipoteticamente quali possono essere i punti di caduta. Naturalmente ci si arriva per approssimazioni, non sono convinto del fatto che domani mattina ci sia una formula che metta tutti d’accordo, però se non si comincia a stare su quel terreno lì non ci si arriva”. Molto diverse le reazioni dei “riformisti” dem, l’ala del partito più affezionata al sostegno a Kiev a oltranza. “Non voglio sembrare irrispettosa, ma Goffredo Bettini ha veramente perso una buona occasione per tacere. Avanza una proposta che vuol dire semplicemente: arrangiati Ucraina, e lo fa con falsi argomenti smentiti da evidenze e fatti. Saremo al fianco dell’Ucraina”, scrive sui social la senatrice Sandra Zampa. Ancora più duro il collega Filippo Sensi: “Leggo che i nostri dotti, medici e sapienti si stanno lambiccando per trovare la formula più ipocrita possibile per convincere gli alleati più vicini a Vannacci sull’Ucraina. Forza Italia, faccia a faccia Tajani-occhiuto a casa di Gianni Letta: l’irritazione del leader dopo le critiche del suo vice
Un faccia a faccia. Teso. Dopo gli ultimi attacchi del presidente della Regione Calabria sul partito “ingiallito” che pensa “solo alle tessere” e ai congressi “da prima Repubblica”. Giovedì mattina, prima del voto alla Camera sulla legge elettorale, il leader di Forza Italia Antonio Tajani ha voluto incontrare il governatore e vicesegretario azzurro Roberto Occhiuto per un chiarimento. I due, secondo quanto risulta al Fatto, si sarebbero incontrati nell’ufficio di Gianni Letta a largo del Nazareno. Padrone di casa che è per definizione uomo delle mediazioni e che fa pensare che, in quel contesto, potesse rappresentare la famiglia Berlusconi. Non sono noti i contenuti del colloquio ma Tajani avrebbe voluto mettere in chiaro che non ha intenzione di essere logorato, tanto più dal suo vicesegretario. Occhiuto, infatti, mercoledì era a Roma per presentare il suo nuovo libro Il coraggio di governare in cui ha attaccato il leader azzurro: intervistato da David Parenzo, Occhiuto ha definito Forza Italia un partito “ingiallito” e da rinnovare. Nel suo libro ha anche definito “moscia” la comunicazione di Forza Italia e di tutto il centrodestra chiedendo un rinnovamento. Parole che non sono state prese bene dal segretario di Forza Italia che ha chiesto un chiarimento. A colpire il leader è stata soprattutto la truppa di 24 parlamentari presenti mercoledì alla presentazione, tutti della minoranza e nessuno vicino a Tajani: tra questi i ministri Paolo Zangrillo e Maria Elisabetta Alberti Casellati, ma anche Deborah Bergamini, Giorgio Mulè, Alessandro Cattaneo e Claudio Lotito. Presenti anche Francesca Pascale e Maria Rosaria Rossi. Il tour di Occhiuto per presentare il libro è solo iniziato e il governatore della Calabria sembra intenzionato a costruire una corrente interna al partito. Magari spinto dalla famiglia Berlusconi. Ma Tajani non vuole una scalata interna, alla vigilia delle elezioni politiche.
